Blog 26

Tomorrow at this time it will be all over but the shouting.  It doesn't seem like 6 months but it is. So where do we go from now? Hopefully maintain or continue on.  I hope to continue on.  I have learned  a lot about myself on the program, a lot about the program and a lot about what others went through to get to the finish line.
I want to stay on the program until the start of the new one in 2015. Hopefully I will be on the last leg of a big weight loss. I don't want to fall off the wagon. But if I do just lick my wounds and get back on.
Thanks go out to a lot of people for my success. For the spiritual help that God gave me. For my wife who put up with my diet becoming her diet and was my most enthusiastic cheerleaders thank you.  For my family and friends who were always asking how I was doing- thanks. For all the people who supported the Lighten up Program:  The News Herald, Lean Living, Lake County YMCA, Second Sole, Lake County Health and especially for Aladdin's- thanks. Thanks to Cori and Cheryl who helped me focus me on the electronic recording parts. Cory's weekly blogs helped enlighten me on good nutrition and actually taught an old dog new tricks. To all the other Lighten up participants thanks for creating a competitive environment.
To all who want to start the program next year. Gear up. You've got a ride you won't easily forget. I hope to be with you to encourage you as well as finish the job I started this year.

Well it's coming down to the wire. We were just dinner at Aladdin's discussing the future after the last weigh in.  It seems like it was only yesterday we were weighing in for the first time. Now in 5 days of so the program comes to an end.  It has been a great ride. I have learned as much about a good life style as I could have asked.  No short cuts, no quickie diets, it is a good solid life style. Eating what your body needs not what satisfies your taste buds. I have talked to others about the program and they have seen my results and they want to do the same. I hope that in January 2015 that there will be another Lighten up starting up and if I need it to finish off my weight loss I will be there for it also.
In the mean time I will carry on. Good luck to all this coming Saturday.

I had an interesting observation from my father who is 94. His philosophy on  weigh loss was take smaller bites and chew each bite at least 20 times. It wasn't an earth shattering comment. Just a little common sense. How did I get this way? Among other things eating too fast and putting too much on my fork. The other things are that I would consume a bag of chips on my way back from a trip and of course top it off with a 32 or 44 oz diet coke. Those days are gone now and let's hope for good.
Monday my wife and I went to Aladdin's for ou r a lighten up meal. I noticed during the meal that I was putting less on my fork and chewing it 20 times or more. It took a lot longer to eat than it normally does. My wife commented that it is always pleasant to eat at Aladdin's.The background music is very relaxing and it makes you relax and enjoy eating. Instead of eating in 10 minutes it took 30.
So take a smaller bite or  forkful and listen to some relaxing music. And.....

Well the weigh-in came and went. I lost another 6+ pounds. It was nice to see all the people there at the weigh-in.  Everyone is trying hard and succeeding. With only one more month to go with a holiday in between it will be a tough one for all but there is a lot of determination.  Just a simple wish that all will do well this month.
